Do you occasionally need to entertain out of town friends and family or have a free day where you want to act like a tourist yourself? Some of downtown Chicago’s favorite attractions are within easy walking distance of your luxury apartment at The Bernardin.

One of the downtown Chicago’s most recognizable icons is only two blocks away, the historic Chicago Water Tower. Built in 1869 it is one of the few structures to survive the Great Chicago Fire that destroyed the city in 1871.

Just one block further at 875 N. Michigan is the Observatory on the 94th floor of the John Hancock building, a “must see” for anyone in downtown Chicago. You can experience incredible views of up to four states and 80 miles from 1000 feet above street level.

To the north is Oak Street Beach- famous for its great views of the city and Lake Michigan. Go for a swim or take a walk, skate or cycle in the designated paths along the lakefront.

Further to the east is Navy Pier. The pier has constantly evolved since its construction in 1916. It has been the temporary home to the Navy and the University of Illinois and been used for commerce and conventions but now features a mix of year-round entertainment, shops, restaurants, attractions and exhibition facilities. It’s a great place to see tall ships, take a boat cruise, enjoy a concert, ride the ferris wheel or watch the fireworks.
